This has been a really exciting year for Meghan Trainor. The 21-year-old is currently on her first headlining tour in support of her debut album, Title. On top of that, she’s not only rubbing elbows with famous friends like Sam Smith and Becky G, but is also joining some of them in the studio.
We sat down with the star for our May music issue, and this is exactly what she had to say.
Teen Vogue: What do you want your fans to know about you?
Meghan Trainor: I’m not just some girl who is sassy and dances and is all about the bass. I can also do a heartbreaking song and sing my ass off too.
Teen Vogue: What was it like working with Harry Styles on your duet?
MT: Performing a love song in front of Harry is terrifying, and on top of that I was a little nervous because he was one of the first celebrities I met. It’s a cute little number called ‘Someday Maybe.’ It needs a good home. Harry was super talented at writing, and his lyrics were incredible—probably my favorite lyrics in a song. I remember I wrote it at midnight the night before and sent it to my mom. I was so worried he was going to hate it.
Teen Vogue: Are you used to the fame yet?
MT: I still get blown away when people recognize me. To this day, whenever I’m at events I’m always like ‘Why of all people are we here right now?’ It’s awesome.
Kelly Clarkson, Ed Sheeran, Meghan Trainor and John Legend will perform at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards, PEOPLE has confirmed exclusively.
The show, which will be hosted by Ludacris and Chrissy Teigen, will also have performances by Hozier, Nick Jonas, Sam Smith and Fall Out Boy featuring Wiz Khalifa.
Nominated in seven categories, Legend, who hit No. 1 with his single “All of Me” – written for wife and show host Teigen – will be performing alongside Meghan Trainor. The “All About That Bass” singer, who has a whopping nine nominations, collaborated with Legend on her song “Like I’m Gonna Lose You,” which was released in January. The pair will world premiere the first live performance of their duet on the show.
Make sure to tune in to the 2015 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, May 17, on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.
Meghan has been featured as day 7’s beauty in People Magazine’s countdown to their annual People’s Most Beautiful Women Issue using women featured in the issue.
After the major success of her 2014 hit, “All About That Bass,” the 21-year-old singer has been unstoppable. Despite her initial insecurities about not looking “like Rihanna”, Trainor has established herself as a pop force to be reckoned with – and a totally gorgeous one at that.
The issue hits stands and the full list will be revealed on April 22nd 2015, be sure to pick it up!
