On her first date with boyfriend, actor Daryl Sabara: We went on a double date — bowling and karaoke. He kissed me at the bowling alley. I told my security to step outside ‘cause I didn’t want to be watched. LOL. He was the best kisser ever. I know I’m really good at kissing, but I was shocked when he was.
On feeling sexy: I never really felt sexy with guys before. No one expressed how they liked my body out loud in the bedroom until I met Daryl. He is obsessed with it — every inch. And that has improved my confidence more than even “Bass” did. He’s a champion, so we’re in heaven.
On being a young artist: The benefit of being young is having time to learn and to fix things. We take notes after everything: pros and cons about things, what we will do differently next time, how did Beyoncé do it? That’s the question we always ask ourselves. [She’s] our god. I always say, “What would Beyoncé do?”
On how her next album will include songs about Sabara: I wrote six songs on the road about him in front of his face. One is called “Marry Me.”

On “All About That Bass”: “That first thing I ever did was the music video for [‘All About That] Bass’ and I had no management, I had no glam team, I was terrified – I just remember eight hands were all over me shoving me into these outfits and they were like ‘GO!’ And I was just faking it! A lot of my first year was fake it till you make it. I had no idea what was doing.”
On her breakthrough album and changing direction on “Thank You”: “I kept writing doo-wop thinking that was right and the label turned around and said, ‘You’re doing what everyone expects you to do. Why don’t you be the songwriter you say you are and shake it up?’ So I said ‘Make me a beat that Meghan Trainor wouldn’t do’, and we wrote ‘No’ in a couple of hours. Once they heard it, the label freaked out; everyone freaked out. It was like ‘THAT’S what we’re talking about!’ They wanted the song that every other artist wished they had and I was like… ‘Got it!’”
On experimenting with rap on tracks such as ‘No’: “We tried to put more urban into it – and I tried to rap more. I mean I did NOT expect to rap! I was writing songs and one day I thought ‘You know what? I’m just gonna rap on this one’ as a joke, so I tried it and was like, ‘hang on… I can rap! I’m good at this! I have rhythm!’”
On the backlash she faced for the use of “skinny bitch” in her song “All About That Bass” and criticism to conforming to gender stereotypes: “I wanted to make something fun and upbeat that would maybe really help people. I still get asked ‘Was it your intention to bash skinny people?’ NO! Absolutely not. I just wrote a fun song to help ME out with my insecurities – and the world loved it – that’s all I have.”

Meghan Trainor is still single and still ready to mingle.
At the 2016 People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday, the 22-year-old singer talked to E! News exclusively about her love life, new album and moving on after a health scare.
When asked if she has any time for a boyfriend, Trainor said, “No, I’m single, still.”
E! News had learned earlier this year that the singer had been seeing Nick Jonas’ assistant, Cory Andersen, for several months. The two never confirmed a relationship. Trainor told E! News earlier this year she is looking for a “nice guy” to date, one who will treat her right. She had said at the 2014 American Music Awards she wants a boyfriend who shares her love of cuddling and making music and who is “real cool” and makes her laugh.
Trainor and fellow pop star Charlie Puth, 24, sparked romance rumors when they made out on stage at the 2015 American Music Awards this past November while performing their collaboration “Marvin Gaye.” The two have said the kiss was platonic. Puth says he and Trainor are just friends.
Career-wise, Trainor has flourished over the past year. The singer has sold millions of records since releasing her 2014 breakout No. 1 hit, “All About That Bass.” Subsequent tracks “Lips Are Movin,” “Dear Future Husband” and “Like I’m Gonna Lose You,” which features John Legend, have all made the top 20. The songs are all featured on her debut album, Title, which won Best Album at the 2016 People’s Choice Awards.
Trainor told E! News she has been working on her new album, which she revealed is titled Thank You. She did not name a release date but said, “We’re doing the final mixes this week.”
“[It’s] amazing to finally wrap it up,” she said. “It kills you to hold these songs from the world, it really does. Especially, one of my songs, it’s called “Thank You,” which the album is called, Thank You, and it’s a song to my fans. I want them to hear it now but I have to wait.”
Trainor told Fuse TV in December she was wrapping up work on the new album, adding, “It’s very new and different, but it sounds like me. I’ve got a lot to say!”
Trainor also plans to embark on a rescheduled tour after cancelling a concert series this past summer to undergo surgery after suffering a vocal cord hemorrhage.
The singer told E! News people who have heard her new music have told her that her voice has “gotten better” since the operation.
This has been a really exciting year for Meghan Trainor. The 21-year-old is currently on her first headlining tour in support of her debut album, Title. On top of that, she’s not only rubbing elbows with famous friends like Sam Smith and Becky G, but is also joining some of them in the studio.
We sat down with the star for our May music issue, and this is exactly what she had to say.
Teen Vogue: What do you want your fans to know about you?
Meghan Trainor: I’m not just some girl who is sassy and dances and is all about the bass. I can also do a heartbreaking song and sing my ass off too.
Teen Vogue: What was it like working with Harry Styles on your duet?
MT: Performing a love song in front of Harry is terrifying, and on top of that I was a little nervous because he was one of the first celebrities I met. It’s a cute little number called ‘Someday Maybe.’ It needs a good home. Harry was super talented at writing, and his lyrics were incredible—probably my favorite lyrics in a song. I remember I wrote it at midnight the night before and sent it to my mom. I was so worried he was going to hate it.
Teen Vogue: Are you used to the fame yet?
MT: I still get blown away when people recognize me. To this day, whenever I’m at events I’m always like ‘Why of all people are we here right now?’ It’s awesome.
